St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Beeston

St Andrew’s Community Centre in Beeston is a hub for the diverse community that lives locally to it, and has been so for many years. Activities that take place there include Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies, Pantomime and Dance Groups, Coffee Mornings, Food Banks, Drop in Café, Warm Space and a whole host of activities designed to enable people to live later life well, through the South Leeds Live at Home Scheme that is headquartered at the Centre.

About us: The Church at St Andrew's aims to mix new and traditional styles of worship in a way that is thought provoking but not too heavy. We have regular All Age Services, designed to appeal equally to young and old, but everyone is welcome on any Sunday from 10.30-11.30.

South Leeds houses one of the most varied communities in the city. St Andrew’s Community Centre is hugely important in helping such an assorted range of people to integrate, and as such the Centre has to be fit for purpose for all of its users, and that includes being accessible to as many people as possible. Literally thousands of people pass through the Centre doors every year to enjoy its activities, and so adding an accessibility ramp and making a Fire Escape to the correct specification for disabled people who might be in a wheel chair, does not just improve the place and space for the users of the building, but enhances it and opens it far more widely to a whole new element from that same community. However, like all Church and Community Groups, the availability of funds to do this are very much at a premium. So, it is with great delight that we are able to confirm that the National Lottery Awards for All Community Fund has stepped up to the plate and approved an application for significant funding to enable this work to take place. Through the Award the Community Centre will undergo the following upgrades, • The building of an accessibility ramp that will run directly from the main events hall doors into the car park. • New Fire Doors to create a Hall Fire Escape that is fully accessible. • Removal the foliage and edgings to the current car park to recreate the two metres (approximately) of car park space that will be lost due to the ramp being constructed. We, the trustees of the Centre, want to offer our sincere thanks to the Community Fund, because without funding such as this Community Hubs would not be able to be sustained as the Social centres that they are today. We are excited by this project and look forward to sharing progress with you as the works advances. It is due to start in November 2019 and we are hoping for completion by early 2020.

Once a month the Service includes Holy Communion, when those who wish to share bread and wine can celebrate Jesus' presence with us and remember that he died for us.

Messy Church is held once a month, contact us for the next date.

We have an Open Doors morning on Wednesdays 9.30am – 11.30am for refreshments, chat and support for the community.

Regular Activities: Fellowship Group, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, Pantomime Group, Weekly Open door each Wednesday.

A MHA Communities Beeston Scheme operates on our premises, providing numerous activities for the over-55s, and many from our congregation participate in these events
